The Verona and Cedar Grove guide to Winter Storm information.
[Last Updated: Feb. 8, 5:20 p.m.] Residents are getting ready to hunker down to wait out the snow after Essex County declared a state of emergency. Cedar Grove Mayor Peter Tanella is urging people to stay safe by avoiding any unneccesary travel. "The DPW hit the roads early this morning and are working around the clock to maintain the roads," he said Friday evening. The township has plenty of salt stockpiled and plows will continue throughout the storm, he added. Tanella is also telling residents to call the Cedar Grove Police Department in case of emergencies but has offered his own cell phone number for residents with questions or comments. Its a very friendly town.” She is looking forward to getting to know people around town, finding out what they like to read and what services they would like from the library. Torrey is no stranger to the Northern New Jersey area, having worked in public libraries in East Hanover and Park Ridge. “I am tuned into New Jersey Libraries so that will really help,” she said. “I've also had a lot of experience…

With back-to-school stresses piling up, Laura Overdeck wants to let children and parents in on a little secret: math can be fun. Really. Overdeck is on a mission to change the way Americans think about math — especially given that math anxiety has been tracked in kids as young as age 5. This is what inspired her to create Bedtime Math, a nonprofit that sends out a daily email with a math problem tailored to “wee ones,” little and big kids. Bedtime Math has been very successful in both Verona and Cedar Grove. “Families signed up for the program and got calendar of summer months and stars. They can go online and have math problem delivered every day,” said Cedar Grove Youth Services Librarian Natalie Cheetham. “They put a star on the …
