Lawyer for a Cedar Grove resident who was charged $10,457.90 for his quarterly water bill, says he'll let a court decide if the water meter was faulty.
A Cedar Grove man who had to pay more than $10,000 for his water bill is not giving up the fight. He wants to take the matter to court. Kirit Kothari paid the $10,457.90 water bill in late June that he repeatedly claimed was excessive for his single-family home. According to his attorney, Kothari, the Cedar Grove resident who was charged more than $10,000 for his quarterly water bill back in 2011 may soon begin litigation with the township of Cedar Grove His usual bill for a quarter was around $110. Kothari disputed the extraordinarily high bill for 15 months before he paid it in late June under the threat of having his water cut off. Council passes ordinance affecting Briarhill Road, Devonshire Road South, Lakewood Avenue and Union Street.
[UPDATED 10 a.m. Tuesday] Commuters traveling to New York City from Cedar Grove will have to search a little harder for places to park following the passage of a time-restriction ordinance limiting parking to two hours on four township roads. Councilman John Zunic was absent from the meeting. “These roads will have time limits for parking due to congestion from people commuting to New York and parking on these roads all day,” said Deputy Mayor Robert O'Toole. The ordinance limits parking on …

Homeowner, lawyer insist 11,000-gallons of water per day figure is inaccurate.
It would be an understatement to say that Cedar Grove resident Kitra Kothari has found himself in hot water. Though Kothari lives in a single-family house, where the normal water bill averages $115 per quarter — he recently paid a bill much larger than that. On June 21, after 15 months of fighting with his local water utility, Kothari paid $10,457.90 under the threat of getting his water turned off. But he still insists the bill was unfair. According to his attorney Charles Damian of Cedar Grove, “My client received a water bill for almost one million gallons of water usage in one quarter. If there was a leak, it would be something you would hear and see the consequences of.” One million gallons consumed over 90 days equals more than …

It is about time that Kothari obtains another indepent water meter tester. As far as not seeing the water, Mr. Kothari lives on Second Mountain, which drains off to residents below. Doubt that it would be noticed. Our township officials have been doing the right thing all along. It would be wrong of them to pass Mr. Kothari's maintenance issue onto the taxpayers, which, in my opinion, just is …   more ›
