Verona Resident Preserves Fallen Soldier's Memories

Website started by Robert Caruso provides biographies, personal stories of local heroes.

When Verona resident Robert Caruso attended a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony several years ago, he became intrigued when the names of the fallen at the Verona Civic Center were read aloud by officials because, "no one seemed to know anything about these people." So Caruso began the Verona Heroes research project in 2004, aiming to preserve the memory of the township's fallen servicemen, according to a story in The Verona-Cedar Grove Times Sunday. Since then, he has begun piecing together photos, personal stories and contacted family members to create biographies on every local hero. To see Caruso's work, click here.

Verona Veterans Day Ceremony Held Sunday

Families, friends remember, commemorate bravery of soldiers.

Families and friends gathered at Verona Veteran's Day Celebration at the Verona Town Hall. Officials, including Mayor Frank Sapienza, and soldiers recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Sapienza addressed the crowd, then laid a wreath at the township's war memorial before the Verona Band Jazz Ensemble performed. Verona resident Dan Molloy honored the veterans by performing Taps as part of the ceremony.
