The Verona Township Council presented awards and was recognized by the Verona High School Football Team for their efforts in readying the lower football field for the season.
The Verona Township Council formally recognized five students as the winners of the Idle Free Verona campaign poster contest, during its public meeting on Monday, Nov. 19. The Verona Environmental Commission has been sponsoring Walk to School Day for the past four years to reduce air pollution. This year, to increase participation, they held a poster contest for students in grades one to eight and received more than 150 submissions. The winners are Emily Wyne from F.N. Brown School, Julianna Spina from H.B. Whitehorne Middle School, Bobby Donohue from Forest Avenue School, Diane Valverde from Brookdale Avenue School and Thomas Radigan from Laning Avenue School. The Verona Environmental Commission received an award for its clean air campaign to keep Verona idle-free and eliminate pollution.
The Verona Environmental Commission was awarded the Environmental Achievement Award for its successful video "Go Idle Free Verona." The award was presented Saturday, Oct. 20 at The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions' (ANJEC) 39th Annual Environmental Congress held at the Middlesex County College in Edison. The award was presented by Nelson Dittmar Jr., President of ANJEC. Go Idle Free Verona is part of the Commissions' clean air campaign to get Verona residents to turn off their engines when they aren't driving to help decrease the amount of air pollution. The Verona Environmental Commission is holding a Walk to School Day poster contest as part of their Idle Free Verona campaign.
Verona students will be taking to the sidewalks, instead of the streets on Wednesday, for the Verona Environmental Commission's Walk to School Day event. The commission is sponsoring the annual event to encourage elementary school children to walk to school. By walking to school instead of driving, the commission hopes to decrease the amount of pollution produced by idling cars. This is the fourth year in a row the Commission is hosting the event. This year they are promoting the event by holding a poster contest for Verona students grades one to eight.
