Opposition Continues Against Bloomfield Avenue Development

The Verona Board of Adjustment hears expert testimony, continues application on Dec. 13.

After an almost four-hour meeting Tuesday night involving expert testimony, the Verona Board of Adjustment concluded they will need to reconvene Dec. 13 to further discuss a developer’s application for a Bloomfield Avenue mixed retail and residential property. More than 50 Verona residents attended the meeting to oppose the application from developer DMH2 LLC. The proposed three-story property would include retail businesses on the first floor with residential apartments on the second and third floors, as well as two parking lots. Verona Board of Adjustment to Discuss Controversial Development Tonight

The Board will continue discussion on a Bloomfield Ave. development which has drawn concerns from residents on blasting and overdevelopment.

The Verona Board of Adjustment will hold a special meeting Tuesday night, Nov. 27 to continue a hearing on a developer’s plan for a 3½-story building. The developer, DMH2 LLC, plans to build a new structure containing retail stores on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors, along with two parking lots on a Bloomfield Avenue site. The plan has drawn an angry response from residents at past meetings. “This is a very difficult case,” said Board of Adjustment member Michael Zichelli in a previous interview. “Just the lay of the land is so much different than any other property in Verona… special attention is required. Residents Fight Building Plans Near Everett Field

The battle over construction plans continued Thursday at the Board of Adjustment meeting at the Verona Community Center.

Plans for a retail and residential project across from Everett Field in Verona have upset residents of the neighborhood, many of whom believe construction of the building could damage their homes and ruin their views.   After lengthy legal arguments by the attorneys before about 50 members of the public that proceeded late into night, the Verona Board of Adjustment decided to continue hearings regarding the plans for the site, though they are still months away from a decision. “This is a very difficult case,” said Board of Adjustment member Michael Zichelli. “Just the lay of the land is so much different than any other property in Verona… special attention is required. Besides the questions and concerns about blasting and home damage, there is a huge child safety issue that needs to be addressed. Everett Field is open and in in use most of the day and evening for at least 8 months of the year. There are children being dropped off and picked up and running across Westview Road and Elmwood Road constantly. Trucks that will be using those roads if the project is …   more ›
