Cedar Grove Council Approves 2012 Budget

The council also introduces four new pending ordinances.

After more than a month of discussions, the Cedar Grove Township Council unanimously approved the $12 million 2012 municipal budget at Monday night’s council meeting. Under the township budget, taxes for the average homeowner with a home assessed at $470,400 would go up an average of $55.51 per $100,000 of assessed valuation. The budget is $12,524,502, which is $276,154 higher than the 2011 budget. Also approved last night was the 2012 Solid Waste Collection District Budget for $1,773,024, an increase of $120,865 from last year. The council introduced the following four ordinances and scheduled a public for May 7 to discuss: • Background checks for all coaching volunteers in town. Verona, Cedar Grove Councils Meet Tonight

Lots of ongoing outdoor activities available in the week ahead.

This week, both Cedar Grove and Verona have a few meetings, but reserve some family time as temperatures are expected to be in the 70s and Spring begins. First up, the Cedar Grove Township Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in council chambers. Check out the attached PDF of the agenda. Cedar Grove Seeks Cuts to Budget

Council looks to focus cuts on capital budget projects portion of budget.

The Cedar Grove Township council held a special council meeting prior to the regular meeting last night where they discussed new legislation concerning the township budget. The main issue discussed in both meetings focused on cuts to the capital budget projects portion of the budget. Councilman Joseph Chiusolo reiterated his suggestion to keep the number around $350,000 — the number previously agreed upon. “The capital budget has been proposed at $529,000 and that concerns me,” said Chiusolo. “I reached out to the (township) manager and spoke him about cutting it.” “The reason for the $350,000 budget,” Township Manager Thomas Tucci said, “is we were trying to keep our debt service consistent for every year so we don’t make the tax rate …

Cedar Grove Receives Relief Funds From FEMA

Money will help defray costs of freak Halloween storm.

  The Cedar Grove Township Council announced last night the township has received a portion of the federal funds they were expecting to help pay for cleanup from the Halloween snowstorm. The first installment of the town’s relief money was received from the Federal Environmental Management Agency totaling $111,404.51. The second installment is expected in two to three weeks. FEMA usually pays about 70 percent of cost said Township Manger Thomas Tucci. The council also discussed the pending budget.
