Happy Hanukkah, and Chanukah
Temple Shalom of West Essex lights up the menorah on the eve of annual holiday
It was quite a scene in the main hallway at Temple Shalom. The usual large group of religious school students were present, and there was an extra energy in the air - and more "light" than usual. It's the first night of Hanukkah, and tonight a menorah would be lit in it's honor. The temple students lit the menorah in the sanctuary and sang a "blessing over the candles." Afterward, they enjoyed latkes and other treats in what was shaping up to be a perfect night - and beginning. When asked about the meaning of the holiday, the excited children went with one-word exclamations. A.J. D'Addio of Verona said, "candles!" while Jack Zickerman of Verona added "presents!"
