Idling car taken from Verona residence on Friday, police said.
Verona police were involved in a short police chase on Friday, March 29 through the township and into West Orange, officials said Monday. The car, a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee, was taken from a Claremont Avenue residence while the owner left it running with the keys inside, police said. “Officers responded and saw the vehicle on Pompton and Bloomfield avenues,” police said. The vehicle was last seen heading south on Prospect Avenue into West Orange, police said. As of Monday, April 1, the vehicle had not been recovered.

Stolen Honda Odyssey leads police on a high speed chase through Verona; owner allegedly lied to police about being carjacked in order to get them to the scene faster.
Verona Police scrambled to clear roads as a stolen Honda led police on a high-speed pursuit through several towns on Tuesday March 5, while a Paterson man allegedly lied about a carjacking in order to get a quicker response time from police. Police say Terrence Byrd claimed a car thief brandished a handgun and took his 2013 Honda Odyssey from the A Plus Sunoco station at the intersection of Passaic Avenue and Greenbrook Road on March 5 at approximately 11 p.m. A police investigation revealed Byrd fabricated the part about the gun in order to get officers to the scene quicker, which it did, according to police. Suspect driving stolen Porsche Cayenne arrested nearby after high-speed chase .
An East Orange man, who led Cedar Grove police on a high-speed chase through the township Thursday morning before eluding them, was arrested a short time later in nearby Clifton, officials said Thursday. Cedar Grove police attempted to stop a stolen 2004 Porsche Cayenne driven by Kenneth D. Daniels at 7:27 a.m. at the intersection of Pompton and Stevens avenues, officials said. However, officials said, Daniels refused to stop and began the high-speed chase heading north on Pompton Avenue. Officers pursued until losing sight of the Porsche as it approached the Route 23/Route 46/Interstate 80 interchange, police said. The car had been reported stolen in Little Ferry on Feb. 13. Newark Police find BMW X3 taken from Verona residence.
A car left idling on a Verona driveway Dec. 26 was stolen and recovered the following day in Newark, police said. The black BMW X3 was taken from an Oakridge Road residence just after 11 a.m., police said. “The resident reported that he started the vehicle and left the keys in it to warm up,” Verona police said. “When he came back outside the vehicle was missing from the driveway.” Newark police found the car the next day and contacted both State Police and Verona police, officials said. The car was then returned to the owner in Verona, police said.

Verona police are searching for a stolen black BMW X3 taken from an Oakridge Road residence just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The license plate on the stolen car is YSF 68J.
