Police have issued a ticket for careless driving to a 60-year-old Montclair man, who crashed his car into a light pole on Tuesday night. The one-car accident on Bloomfield Avenue happened shortly after 6 p.m. near the Annin Flag Company. Verona police say Sanford Brown was driving a Volvo station wagon east on Bloomfield Avenue when he lost control of the car and veered into a light pole. He also nicked a fire hydrant and smashed into a telephone pole before coming to a stop. Brown was uninjured in the accident, Verona Police Chief Douglas Huber said, although rescue squad members at the scene examined him. Crews on hand repair damage to Bloomfield Avenue light pole following car accident, plan to return Wednesday to assess damage.
[UPDATED 11:15 p.m. Tuesday] PSE&G crews have restored power to approximately 121 homeowners and businesses after a car accident early Tuesday evening damaged a light pole and snarled traffic in the area. PSE&G spokesman Duane Johnson said power was restored by 7:18 p.m. Tuesday, but crews were still at the Bloomfield Avenue site shoring up the pole. Around 9 p.m. Verona police were directing traffic at the scene and PSE&G workers were still on the scene. Crews will return today to re-assess the situation, Johnson said, and make any necessary repairs on the pole.
