Verona Police Blotter: Craigslist Incidents in Verona

The following information has been provided by the Verona Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

April 20: A Linden Avenue resident told police during the night someone scratched the side of his car parked in his driveway. April 20: A Morningside Road resident reported a lost wallet at 2 p.m. April 21: A Fairview Avenue resident told police someone listed a rental property she owned for rent on Craigslist. The resident told police she believed it was a former tenant who was evicted several weeks ago. April 21: Verona police and rescue squad were called to Crestmont Road at 10:14 a.m. where a woman fell. She was treated for a leg injury, then transported to Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.  April 23: Police found a man with a head injury near the intersection of Bloomfield and Brookdale avenues at 2:06 a.m. Police reported the man …

Cedar Grove Man Reports Sweepstakes Scam

The following information has been provided by the Cedar Grove Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 12: At 11:55 p.m., Cedar Grove police pulled over Marilyn C. Alvarado, 30, of Paterson. When checking her license, police found it was suspended and arrested her. She was processed at police headquarters and released pending a municipal court appearance. March 13: A Cedar Grove man reported he believed he was the intended victim of a sweepstakes scam when he reported receiving a letter from Sure Financial Incorporated informing him he won $450,000. The letter included a check for $4,850 to pay for a $4,100 sweepstakes-processing fee, along with instructions to call a claims agent for further information. Believing the letter was a scam, the man contacted police. In scams such as this, the intended victim is instructed to deposit the …

Police Blotter: Stolen Wallet Returned, Less $400

The following information has been provided by the Cedar Grove Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 5: A Verona resident who reported her wallet was stolen told police the wallet was found in the Kings parking lot on Pompton Avenue and returned to her. The resident said the wallet was missing $400, but everything else seemed untouched. March 6: Damian J. Purvis, 21, of West Orange, was arrested for driving with a suspended license after being pulled over for speeding at 11:32 a.m. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. March 6: Abdel Ileiwat, 38, of Bellville was arrested for driving with a suspend license at 9:30 p.m. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. March 8: Police responded to a noise complaint near Little Falls Road and the Peckman River Plaza at 11:04 p.m. and issued a summons to four …

Newark Driver Issued Summonses After Accident

The following information has been provided by the Verona Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 2: Verona police received a report of animal cruelty when a resident walking their dog on Sylvan Road, near Valhalla Way said they were unsure if the dog drank an unknown liquid from a dish left on a the curb. March 2: Verona police report food was intentionally left at the curb on Sylvan Road at 4:49 p.m. The resident at the address said they were not responsible. March 3: A driver with a provisional license was issued several summonses following a car accident at the intersection of Pompton and Bloomfield avenues, Verona police reported. Following the accident, officers discovered Davaughn Brockett of Newark behind Hardbodyz Fitness. Brockett was issued summonses for underage possession of alcohol, reckless driving, leaving the …

The following reports were prepared by the Cedar Grove Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions. On Monday, Feb. 6 at 5:53 p.m., police responded to the area of West Lindsley Road & Willow Ridge Court on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer.  A subsequent investigation revealed that the involved vehicle, a 2009 Chevy Impala, had been traveling west on West Lindsley Road when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision.  The vehicle sustained reportable property damage and the deer ran off into a wooded area following the crash.  * Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn. -- On Tuesday, Feb…

The following reports were prepared by the Verona Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions. 2/3/2012 4:56 PM Officer Robert Shafer took a report of Harassment from an Amy Court resident.  The resident reports that he received a threatening phone call from an ex tenant of his. 7:45 PM Officer Shafer took a report of a neighbor to neighbor dispute on Green Acres Drive.  7:49 PM Sgt. Paul Watkins responded to the area of Sunset Ave & Bloomfield Ave on a report of a dispute on a bus.  The driver reports she picked up a passenger at Willowbrook Mall and that the passenger only paid for a 1 zone ticket.  After passing the first zone the driver advised the passenger that she would need to pay additional money. Burglary, theft, man struck by car highlight weekly report.

The following reports were prepared by the Cedar Grove Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, a Center Avenue resident reported a burglary.  The victim reported that some unknown person had forced open the front door of his residence on Saturday, Jan. 28 between the hours of 8:15-11 p.m. The victim reported that nothing appeared to be missing from the home.  The detective bureau also responded to the home, processed the scene for physical evidence, and is now conducting a follow-up investigation. -- On Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8:10 a.m., police responded to the Beverly Road area on a report of a suspicious van driving slowly through the neighborhood.  Responding officers located the involved vehicle…

The following reports were prepared by the Verona Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions. 1/20/2012 2:40 PM Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of Criminal Mischief to a motor vehicle.  The owner reports while the vehicle was parked in the Pilgrim Plaza an unknown actor spray painted the side of the vehicle. 5:27 PM Officer Dave Wardrope affected a motor vehicle stop on Cumberland Avenue.  Investigation revealed that the driver, Tara Cutalo of Cedar Grove was driving with a suspended license and had an active warrant from Saddle Brook Municipal Court.  Subject was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters.
