Cedar Grove Councilman Joseph Chiusolo pens Patch Letter to the Editor.
I would like to thank the voters of Cedar Grove for supporting my re-election to our town council. I would also like to thank the many residents who allowed me to place a sign on their lawn and for the many volunteers who helped during the campaign. I am committed to working hard for all the residents of our community along with my fellow council members and town manager in keeping our local taxes the lowest in Essex County, yet providing the residents with the finest municipal services. As we continue to improve the infrastructure of Cedar Grove, I encourage the residents to be vocal at our council meetings or by reaching out to me with your thoughts and concerns. To the Editor: A new report from the state Department of Transportation confirms what many opponents of red light camera ticketing systems have long suspected: cameras lead to more accidents, more injuries and greater cost. The report contains data showing that both the total number and total cost of crashes have increased at intersections after cameras were installed. The commonly stated goal of red light cameras is to reduce injuries from right-angle crashes, generally the most dangerous type of collision that results from running a red light. At the 24 intersections in New Jersey that have had cameras operational for at least one full year, the number of right-angle crashes decreased by 15%, from 60 to 51, when comparing crash data from…

Monday, November 26, 2012 started off as a regular day in the Kindergarten classroom of Ms. Stephanie Cataneo, one of the two Kindergarten teachers at Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona, New Jersey. Tyler O’Donnell of Verona, one of the students in Ms. Cataneo’s class, made a presentation to his class about his uncle, Private Brett O’Donnell, a Marine who recently completed his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Tyler showed the class his uncle's formal picture and talked about how much he looked up to his uncle. Ms. Cataneo and the class then decided to create a special book filled with pictures thanking Private O’Donnell for his service to the country and wishing him a safe deployment. The holiday spirit came early this year making Thanksgiving a little easier for some. On Tuesday Nov. 20th members from Verona Police PBA Local 72 hosted its 2nd Annual Holiday Food Collection. Members gathered an assortment of Thanksgiving Day fixings and then prepared numerous bags of groceries.
