The man identified in media reports Friday as the shooter in the second deadliest school shooting in American history has told friends that he thinks his developmentally disabled brother may have committed the crime, Patch has learned. A close friend of Ryan Lanza who requested to not be identified told Patch that he spoke to Lanza as he was making his way home from work to Hoboken. A 17-year-old Verona youth was arrested Thanksgiving night when he sped off as police attempted to stop his car for speeding, Cedar Grove police said. The driver and three 15-year-old passengers were on Pompton Avenue (Route 23) around 10 p.m. Nov. 22, police said, when an officer turned on his lights and siren to stop the car. A system for dispensing gas is to begin Saturday to combat long lines at the pump in 12 counties throughout the state. Cedar Grove Police are monitoring a family of black bears, spotted by residents Wednesday morning. The mother and three cubs are thought to be the same black bear family found foraging through West Caldwell on Sunday. Verona’s home football games will have to be moved off of the main football field to a lower field, school officials said late last week. That’s because of a sinkhole has opened on the field and a preliminary report showing there are other problems underneath the field’s surface – including metal under the field’s northeast corner.
