OLL Students Celebrate Martin Luther King Day

Our Lady of the Lake School students prepare projects in honor of Martin Luther King.

Students at Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona spent Monday, Jan. 21 learning about the influence of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The third grade, taught by Mrs. Beth Grimes, did a special I Have a Dream project in addition to lessons on King's work. Students also prepared reports on their dreams for their families, communities, country or world. Second grade teacher Mrs. Barbara Murphy, led her students in creating special hero reports and posters in honor of King. Many of the second graders chose Dr. King as their hero. First grade students in Mrs. Cathy Baldwin's class created “dream bubbles” for King's I have a dream speech.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events in Cedar Grove and Beyond

Monday, Jan. 21 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For some, the national holiday honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community, be it through removing graffiti or picking up litter in a local park. For others, it’s an opportunity to educate themselves about King and his life's work. And for others, it’s a time to just kick back and enjoy the prolonged weekend. Cedar Grove classes will view and analyze King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech and read stories on King's early life. Sixth-grade students will read "Daddy" written about MLK by his daughter, Yolanda King. “All grade level teachers will be recognizing and discussing with the students reasons for recognizing Dr. King on Monday,” said Cedar …
