Museum Admission Free This Weekend for Bank of America Customers

Liberty Science Center, Morris Museum, Garden State Discovery Museum and more to participate in free weekend event for cardholders.

Several New Jersey museums will open their doors to Bank of America and Merill Lynch cardholders this weekend as part of the bank's "Museums On Us" initiative. The intention of the event is "to provide a cultural benefit to Bank of America cardholders and increase access to the arts across the United States," according to a press release. "The program brings new audiences and increased attention to participating organizations, which range from some of the nation’s most celebrated museums to regional gems and include art, science and history museums, as well as other cultural institutions," the press release said. Watch 12-12-12 Concert Live on Patch

The concert will benefit Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.

Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide.  The concert is streaming live on television networks, movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. Children's Institute is on The Move

Special needs Verona school preparing to move from cramped Verona campus to Regent Street Business Park in Livingston.

After nearly 50 years at the same Verona location, officials at The Children’s Institute have announced the high school and a new adult school will be moving to Livingston beginning next week. TCI spokeswoman Ann Dassing said the school was outgrowing the cramped Verona campus spaces at 1 Sunset Ave. and needed to resolve the situation. The special needs school runs programs for students 3 to 21 years old that helps them overcome learning, language or social and emotional challenges to reach their full potential as adults. Four years ago, TCI sought to expand the school. Hearings before the township zoning board, however, revealed resistance from neighbors, Dassing said, and the zoning board denied the school’s bid. The owner of Verona Sports Center looks back on 40 years in the business.

Verona Sports Center owner Ben Leuzzi has seen the highs and lows of owning the sporting goods business in his 41 years. The former down-on-his-luck stockbroker began working for the store’s previous owner in July 1972 while he was unemployed. Three months later, Leuzzi bought the business and began his lengthy career supplying, resupplying, repairing and customizing athletic gear for the people of Verona and beyond. Wynona's House Children Go Back to School in Style

Prudential Financial donates hundreds of backpacks to Newark nonprofit.

It looked like Christmas morning – in August. More than 400 colorful backpacks flooded the first floor of Wynona's House in Newark Wednesday, an annual delivery from Prudential Financial's "Backpack Challenge." Since 1999, employees of the company in 39 cities, including Newark and Letterkenny, Ireland, have purchased backpacks with their own money and stuffed them with school supplies for needy children. This year, workers collected 417 knapsacks, ranging from magenta Hello Kitty  to blue Thomas the Tank Engine bags, filled with folders, markers, pencils, notebooks and even toys.
