Gov. Christie appeared at Seaside Heights boardwalk Friday to promote the Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore is officially open for summer, Gov. Chris Christie said as he spent Friday morning in Seaside Heights promoting tourism in New Jersey. Early Friday, Christie appeared on NBC's Today Show, which broadcast its morning news program live from Seaside Heights. The governor later cut a ceremonial ribbon—a Guinness World Record at over five miles long—to officially declare the shore open. "It's an incredible day for New Jersey," Christie said in remarks. "I'm so thrilled that this morning we're here with the whole country welcoming the Jersey Shore back." This will be Obama's first visit to Shore since just after Sandy.
President Obama and Gov. Christie will visit the Jersey Shore on Tuesday, according to The Record in Bergen County. This will be Obama's first visit to the area since Oct. 31, just after the storm struck. A full itinerary of the visit was not available. More information can be found here.

The Essex Fells PTA and the Essex Fells Foundation for Educational Excellence have announced that 50% of proceeds from the upcoming Holiday Home Tour and Boutique will be donated to New Jersey schools impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The second annual Holiday Home Tour and Boutique will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The self-guided house tour, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offers a rare opportunity to peek inside eight exclusive Essex Fells' homes. The smallest community in Essex County has just over 700 homes with an average age of 59 years and a median home value of $1.6 million. Volunteer firefighters from Verona, Cedar Grove and around Essex County were among those called into action to assist south Jersey in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. In the early morning hours of Friday, Nov. 2, just days after Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore, a Task Force of Fire Apparatus and Firefighters from Essex County responded to a request for assistance from Ocean County, according to Essex County Fire Coordinator John D’Ascensio. Cedar Grove shop collecting donations for the Shore and is offering free hot soup and a warm place to relax to residents still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
Bambina's Cucina in Cedar Grove has been making the best of a bad situation following Hurricane Sandy by collecting donations for the Shore while giving out free soup, despite losing all of its produce. Bambina's, located at 198 Stevens Ave., offers gourmet foods and catering. The shop lost all of its produce during the power outages following Hurricane Sandy. The produce that did survive the storm was cut up and made into a soup, which is being given out to residents in need of a hot meal. “We had some produce delivered on Monday that was salvageable,” said store owner and manager Angela Lembo. “We are giving out hot soup, bread, baked goods and coffee for free.” People are welcome to come in, get warm, charge their electronics and are …

Aims to give New Jersey municipalities a say over reality shows.
Worried that your town may become the next Snookiville? Well, a bill introduced Monday aims to arm New Jersey municipalities with the right to regulate reality TV shows. Dubbed the "Snookiville Law," the bill introduced by Assemblyman Ronald Dancer (R-12) would allow towns to impose conditions on shows like the "Snooki & JWoww" production that began filming in Manchester in August or the previous installments of "Jersey Shore" that filmed in Seaside Heights and Toms River. “The popularity of MTV’s 'Jersey Shore' and other reality shows can attract crowds to a community,” Dancer said in a news release. “That can be great for local businesses and a costly challenge to a town’s ability to control crowds and protect public safety." MTV's Jersey Shore may soon be history, but will images of drunken misbehavior, boardwalk brawls and ample helpings of "gym, tan, laundry" characterize the Garden State for years to come? On Thursday, MTV announced the show would not return after its sixth season, taped this summer in Seaside Heights, airs this fall. But what is the lasting impact of the TV series that many say put the worst of the state's stereotypes on display for millions of viewers across the world? Final season will begin airing in October
Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous - or, at least, infamous - is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently-taped season airs this fall. The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight 20-somethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premier Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. The network will air "Gym, Tan, Look Back" as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night. Many of us who grew up in New Jersey have wonderful memories of the Jersey Shore. I was a Bradley Beach and Asbury Park guy who remembers the glory days from the 1960's when Asbury Park had 5 movie theaters and a great Boardwalk.
