Crowd laughs as second grade Montville resident's question is answered.

Audrey, a second grader from Montville, grabbed hold of the microphone during a town hall meeting in her town Wednesday to ask Gov. Chris Christie the question on most of the minds of people her age: "What's your favorite thing about being governor?" Christie first answered seriously, but then gave his "fun answer." Check out the video above to see what he had to say.

Scott Garrett will be voted out next election with his new district. Adam Gussen, a local politician with no publicity and almost non-existent fundraising somehow managed to get nearly 43% of the vote. I'd call that a close race. With a strong contender, Garrett would certainly lose with 75% of the district in Democratic Bergen County. Source: http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/New_Jersey'…   more ›

Cedar Grove Township Manager Thomas Tucci, Jr. has been nominated to the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission.

Cedar Grove Township Manager Thomas Tucci, Jr. was recently nominated for the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission by Gov. Chris Christie. Christie, previously submitted nominations of more than a hundred people, including Tucci, to various positions, boards and committees throughout the state but the state Senate has yet to sign off on the nominees. The names were submitted, but no action was taken by the state Senate during the recentyl completed 215th legislative session. “This is the third time I have been nominated,” said Tucci, who said he was first nominated in July 2010. Tucci has been serving as the Cedar Grove Township Manager since 1996 and has also held positions as Director of Public Works and Director of Community Development …

Bill Banning College Credit Card Solicitation Awaits Christie Signature

Proposal by state Sen. Kevin O’Toole would prohibit credit card companies from using merchandising to entice college students to sign up for cards.

Credit card companies may no longer be able to entice college students with free gifts for agreeing to sign up for a credit card under a measure proposed by state Sen. Kevin O’Toole (R-40) that is currently awaiting Gov. Chris Christie’s signature. The legislation, which would ban credit card companies from soliciting students with free gifts like t-shirts, blankets or vouchers on public college campuses, was unanimously passed by the state Senate last month. “You have low promise sales at six or seven percent and then after a period of time it goes up automatically,” said O'Toole. “I'm troubled that they are depending upon a certain population that is perceived of being vulnerable, having trouble making ends meet.” O'Toole said he is …

Winter Storm Athena To Bring Rain, Snow, Strong Wind

Governor Christie said nor'easter expected to slow the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. Winter weather advisory is in effect.

Athena is at the door. Winter Storm Athena has forced a winter weather advisory for much of North Jersey, with the National Weather Service forecasting snow, sleet and rain for Wednesday and a snowy mix for Thursday. Temperatures are expected to be at or just below freezing Wednesday and in the low 40s on Thursday. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, and 60mph wind gusts could blow over much of the area. The Weather Channel is predicting that the “subtle” system will strengthen as it moves up the coast. Accuweather.com is reporting that snowflakes are falling in Pennsauken, which is located across from Philadelphia on the Delaware River. According to meteorologists, snow is expected to begin falling in Central …

Christie on Hurricane Sandy: 'I Feel Like the Disaster Governor'

Gov. declares state of emergency, orders evacuations as storm approaches.

Gov. Chris Christie has a message for New Jersey residents doubting the severity of the Hurricane Sandy forecast: prepare for the worst. The governor declared a weather-related state of emergency before holding a press conference in front of the East Keansburg Fire Co. in North Middletown on Saturday morning. “We should not assume the predictions should be wrong,” Christie said. “When the storm comes, if it’s as bad as they're predicting it will be, you’re going to wish you weren’t as cynical as you might have otherwise been. I’m not trying to be an alarmist here. I want everybody to be ready. I want your families to be safe and I want us to be able to do our jobs the right way.” Christie ordered the mandatory evacuation of Barrier Island …

Christie Vetoes Obamacare Health Insurance Exchange in New Jersey

Conservatives are pleased, but one Democratic critic think the veto is just to "burnish his conservative credentials" for a possible VP run with Mitt Romney.

After months of mulling his options, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed legislation Thursday that would have established a health insurance exchange in New Jersey, a fundamental step in implementing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—known coloquially as "Obamacare"—in the state. Christie had until Thursday to make a decision on Assembly Bill #2171, passed by the state Legislature in March, or the bill would have become law, with or without his signature. Christie said because the U.S. Supreme Court decided to take on Obamacare in March, just 10 days after the state Assembly passed the health exchange bill, the Affordable Care Act "might not survive [legal] scrutiny." "Because it is not known whether the Affordable Care Act…

Lonegan, chairman of the NJ chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group, called Obamacare an "unprecedented federal assault on our liberties." The sheer idiocy of this statement reveals the intellectual bankruptcy of the right's assault on this baby step forward in America's messed-up healthcare system. (And I could do without the Patch's use of the pejorative "Obamacare" …   more ›
