Belleville hosptial offers free flu shots from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Officials at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville believe 2013 has been the worst flu season in more than a decade. To do their part, the hospital is trying to help curb the flu outbreak by partnering with the Montclair YMCA to bring free flu shots to area residents from Verona and Cedar Grove, Montclair, Bloomfield, Belleville and Nutley on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The free flu shots, limited to the first 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis, are available to anyone 18 years of age or older who go to the hospital’s Corporate Care Employee Health Office, Continuing Care Building, first floor, 1 Clara Maass Dr. in Belleville.

Google Flu Trends labels New Jersey as "Intense."
This time last year, flu cases were substantially lower in Verona and Cedar Grove than they are now, according to data on Google's Flu Trends. Overall in New Jersey, activity is now well above what is considered "intense", while it was considered moderate to high at this time in 2012, according to Flu Trends. The Verona Police Department has issued NIXLE alerts reminding residents to get a flu shot.
