Officials are still investigating the cause of Anderson Parkway fire that left an 86-year old woman in the hospital.
The Cedar Grove Fire Department, along with detective bureau personnel, and the the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are still trying to determine the cause of an early-morning fire that left an elderly Cedar Grove resident hospitalized. Police received a call from a neighbor at 5:14 a.m. Wednesday informing them of heavy smoke spewing from the Anderson Parkway home. The homeowner, an 86-year old woman, had been asleep in her home and was awakened by “a loud bang,” police said. She fled the house and went to a neighbor to call 9-1-1 after seeing the smoke pouring from her house. “At about (5:50 a.m.) I heard trucks going up the street and my son Byron saw smoke coming from the house,” said neighbor Nora Paredes, who lives a few houses down…

West Caldwell Chief says fire likely "most severe" in Crane's Mill's history.
A fire that started in a microwave oven damaged an apartment at a popular senior living complex in West Caldwell. Though no one was injured, the West Caldwell Fire Chief said it is probably the worst fire at Crane's Mill, an upscale living complex which opened in 1998. The fire was reported at 9:43 p.m. inside a first-floor apartment of a 100-resident two-story building at 459 Passaic Avenue. The fire burned a wall and cabinet of the kitchen, but did not spread. West Caldwell Police were first on the scene and put out the fire in the microwave where the resident had been heating something up. No one injured in basement fire on Durrell Street this afternoon.
No injuries were reported at a house fire that broke out in Verona at 5:08 p.m., fire officials said Monday. Firefighters were called to Durrell Street near the Hilltop Reservation on a report of a basement fire. It is unclear if anyone was home at the time of the fire, but fire officials confirmed there were no injuries reported. A fire official, who spoke of behalf of Fire Chief Pat McEvoy, said the fire began in the basement and was confined in the basement. The fire official said the blaze was contained within 10 minutes with help from the Cedar Grove Fire Dept. The fire occurred in a two-story house on Durrell Street, a residential street near a wooded area. “It was a good stop,” the fire official said. The fire did not spread and no …
