New Jersey law allows contributors who donate less than $300 to remain anonymous.
A published report Sunday revealed New Jersey’s current campaign donation system needs to be revised after it was disclosed politicians can receive more money while still keeping the names of their donors secret — as long as the contributions are less than $300. The NJ.com report said most states allow campaigns to keep only those donors who give $100, $50 or less private, but Garden State politicians don’t have to report any information about people who contribute less than $300. The report said because of the state’s secretive laws, candidates were able to hide about $12 million out of the $100 million donated. The Junior Women's Club of Cedar Grove presented their annual donations to the library, rescue squad and fire department.
The Junior Women's Club of Cedar Grove made a $250 donation to the Cedar Grove Library on January 22, 2013. The Juniors also donated $250 to the Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad in January and will be donating $250 to the South End Firehouse in the next few weeks. The club typically makes these donations annually as their finances allow.

Cedar Grove Police are collecting a plethora of personal items to ship to soldiers in Afghanistan.
The Cedar Grove Police Department is getting into the holiday spirit by organizing care-packages to send to troops serving overseas. Donations can be dropped off in a collection bin in the lobby of the Cedar Grove Municipal Building at 525 Pompton Ave. Police will be accepting donations until January 1. This year, the packages will be sent to 20 soldiers operating in Afghanistan, including one resident from West Caldwell. “Thanks to the generosity of our residents, last year’s drive was a great success and we were able to send care packages to many of our soldiers away from their families during the Holidays,” police said in a written statement. “Please help us say thank you to our troops by sending them a little piece of home,” police …

Cedar Grove UNICO will be collecting turkeys and non-perishable food for needy families throughout the county.
Cedar Grove UNICO will hold another turkey drive on Tuesday Nov. 20 for needy families throughout Essex County. UNICO will be collecting turkeys and non-perishable food items at St. Catherine of Siena School during regular school hours. “In these tough times, Cedar Grove UNICO strives to continuously give back to the community through its many charitable events,” the organization said. Items will be donated to needy families in Essex County, especially those affected by Hurricane Sandy, they said. UNICO recently donated $1,000 to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.

On Friday November 9th, the Verona Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 72 in cooperation with Goman's Moving Company Inc. organized a collection for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The collection was held for two days and on Saturday November 10th, after loading up the last of the donations, Verona P.B.A. members along with the owners of Goman’s Moving Company, pulled away from the Kings Supermarket and set out for the hour-long trip to Ocean County’s Borough of Bay Head. After being cleared at a NJ Army National Guard Security Checkpoint, PBA members were met by Bay Head Police Officers, Ocean County Sheriffs Officers, Michigan State Troopers, FEMA Workers, and Volunteers, who all helped unload the, (almost Filled), 27-foot long moving …

The Verona Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 72 will be collecting items for Hurricane Sandy victims during today's Verona Football game against Newark's East Side High School. The PBA is looking for canned foods, personal hygiene products, diapers, pet food, sternos, cleaning supplies and AA and D batteries to be distributed to Hurricane Sandy victims with the help of Goman's Delivery Service. "Please limit donated items to what has been specifically requested by the victims," they said. Collections will run during the game from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Verona High School. Cedar Grove shop collecting donations for the Shore and is offering free hot soup and a warm place to relax to residents still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
Bambina's Cucina in Cedar Grove has been making the best of a bad situation following Hurricane Sandy by collecting donations for the Shore while giving out free soup, despite losing all of its produce. Bambina's, located at 198 Stevens Ave., offers gourmet foods and catering. The shop lost all of its produce during the power outages following Hurricane Sandy. The produce that did survive the storm was cut up and made into a soup, which is being given out to residents in need of a hot meal. “We had some produce delivered on Monday that was salvageable,” said store owner and manager Angela Lembo. “We are giving out hot soup, bread, baked goods and coffee for free.” People are welcome to come in, get warm, charge their electronics and are …
