Cedar Grove Police investigating incident that disturbed classes Monday afternoon.
A bomb threat evacuated Cedar Grove High School around lunch time Monday, township police said. The high school on Rugby Road was evacuated at 12:36 p.m. when police responded to a call that a written bomb threat had been discovered in a boys bathroom. The Essex County Sheriff's Department Bomb and K9 Units searched the school, but no explosive devices were found, according to Chief Richard Vanderstreet. Students were allowed back in the school and classes resumed around 2 p.m. The Cedar Grove Police Det. Bureau is investigating the threat. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at 973-239-4100.

Five New York women were arrested in raid conducted by plainclothes police officers after receiving complaints of alleged prostitution, officials said.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of 5 Queens, N.Y. women on alleged prostitution charges Tuesday, May 14, but were unable to discuss the case in detail Wednesday, citing the continuing investigation. The five women were arrested from four different massage parlors all located in close proximity on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove. Police also seized approximately $2,400 in the raid, which was conducted by plainclothes officers, said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit. Pair arrested on pot charges after a neighbor reported a suspicious activity.
Cedar Grove police arrested two people on Monday, May 7after a neighbor contacted them concerning suspicious activity at a nearby home. Police said a 20-year-old Verona man and a 15-year-old Cedar Grove youth were arrested when a resident told police a suspicious person had entered the neighbor’s backyard. When police arrived, they allegedly found the pair smoking marijuana. Police said the 15-year-old was in possession of two bags of marijuana — a larger bag of loose marijuana and a second larger bag that contained smaller bags of marijuana along with a number of empty smaller bags used for packaging marijuana. A Bloomfield man was arrested for pretending to be a police officer, ordering woman to pull over.
A Bloomfield man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after a Tuesday, April 30 incident in which he ordered a motorist to pull over in Cedar Grove, police said. Rocco Castiello, 72, who allegedly pretended to be a police officer, told the driver to pull over on East Bradford Avenue on Saturday, April 20, officials said. A 24-year old woman told police a man in a green van, who was later identified as Castiello, said he was a police officer and ordered her to pull over, police said. The incident took place after the woman pulled over after the traffic light at the intersection of East Bradford Avenue and Ridge Road, officials said. Verona and Cedar Grove Police Departments held a medicine collection day on Saturday, April 27, with no questions asked.
The Cedar Grove and Verona Police Departments collected a combined total of 127 pounds of unwanted or expired medicine, part of Operation Take Back New Jersey Day, organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Surveillance shows pair allegedly stole $300 of formula from Cedar Grove Super Foodtown.
Two North Arlington residents were arrested Monday, April 22, following an investigation into an alleged shoplifting incident earlier this month. Nicole Schilare-Aristiza, 31, and Nicholas Demaria, 25, were arrested after police reviewed surveillance tape of an April 15 incident at Super Foodtown, located at 597 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove After reviewing the video, police determined the pair allegedly took $334.38 worth of baby formula from the store. Schilare-Aristiza was processed on her charge at police headquarters and released pending a Superior Court arraignment Thursday in Newark. Demaria was charged while at the Bergen County Jail where he is being held on unrelated charges, officials said.

Improperly extinguished campfire blamed for blaze put out by Cedar Grove firefighters Sunday.
Cedar Grove firefighters Sunday extinguished a small brush fire on the Hilltop Reservation, officials said Monday. An official with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office said a passing motorist spotted smoke coming from the reservation and called police on April 28. The Essex County Sheriff's Office sent an officer to the reservation while Cedar Grove firefighters were called to put out the fire. “It was a small camp fire that was not properly extinguished,” officials in the Cedar Grove police department said. Hilltop Reservation is owned by Essex County and no camping or campfires are allowed on the premises, officials said. Photos of the incident are available on the Cedar Grove Fire Department website.

Ewa O’Brien, 59, of Cedar Grove has been arrested several times this month on a variety of charges.
A Cedar Grove woman, who was arrested three times in a two-day period earlier this month, was arrested again over the weekend, this time on shoplifting and aggravated assault charges, officials said. In the latest incident, Ewa O’Brien, 59, was arrested on Sunday, April 21 after police arrived at the Cedar Grove Super Foodtown, located at 597 Pompton Ave., to investigate a shoplifting incident allegedly involving O’Brien at approximately 8:28 p.m. In the previous incidents, O'Brien was also arrested three times on a variety of charges in Cedar Grove between Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14. They should also see how they get these tenants.
