[UPDATE] Two-Month Investigation Results in Cedar Grove Prostitution Raid

Five New York women were arrested in raid conducted by plainclothes police officers after receiving complaints of alleged prostitution, officials said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of 5 Queens, N.Y. women on alleged prostitution charges Tuesday, May 14, but were unable to discuss the case in detail Wednesday, citing the continuing investigation. The five women were arrested from four different massage parlors all located in close proximity on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove. Police also seized approximately $2,400 in the raid, which was conducted by plainclothes officers, said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit. These so called massage places have been at Canfield for years. The police should look in to the landlords that own these units and make sure they pay tax on the cash they receive for rent. They should also see how they get these tenants. The also need to look in to the Condo board to see why they refused to do anything about these known issues with these tenants which they have been aware of for…   more ›

Cedar Grove Massage Parlors Raided For Alleged Prostitution

Five Queens, N.Y. women arrested after investigation by Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Cedar Grove police and other agencies.

Raids of four Cedar Grove massage parlors Tuesday led to the arrest of five Queens women on prostitution charges, authorities said.   An investigation began in early spring after complaints arose about workers allegedly engaging in prostitution, officials at the prosecutor’s office and Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet announced late Tuesday night. Give me a break. I have been reporting the Canfield office park locations (yes there are 2) to the police, county and health departments for years. It is about time they got on this. They only mention one of them above. I wonder why they only busted on of them. The landlord for the other one not mentioned, owns a business closer to the center of town. HMM?   more ›

Cedar Grove Police: Passenger Was Illegal Alien

Kearny man arrested, turned over to immigration officials after Saturday night traffic stop.

  A 24-year old passenger in a car stopped by Cedar Grove police Saturday was an illegal alien and was turned over to immigration officials, Cedar Grove police said. Grimaldo D. Andia of Kearny was arrested and turned over to the Department of Homeland Security Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said. “It looks like he was an illegal alien and failed to appear for deportation,” said Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet. County Truck Loses Axle, Stalls Traffic

Rear axle of Department of Public Works vehicle loses hydraulic fluid at intersection of Grove and West Bradford avenues Thursday afternoon, ties up traffic on major thoroughfare.

The axle on an Essex County Public Works truck broke off at the intersection of Grove and West Bradford avenues in Cedar Grove Thursday afternoon, causing traffic delays in the area. Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said no injuries were reported and no other cars were involved when the truck’s rear axle broke off the vehicle at around 12:35 p.m. The truck began leaking hydraulic fluid onto the roadway and the Cedar Grove Fire Department was called to put down Speedy Dry, an absorbent used for removing chemical spills, Vanderstreet said. “They were able to get it under control very quickly,” he said, adding the fire department was successful in keeping it out of the storm drains as well.
