May 7: Cedar Grove police are investigating the theft of $850 from an employee’s spare pair of pants at the Pilgrim Diner. A diner employee said sometime between 10 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. someone took the money from the diner’s basement area where employees store personal belongings. May 8: A 45-year-old West Orange woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license after a 12:34 a.m. police stop. Benedicta C. Akpahu was processed at police headquarters and released pending a municipal court appearance. April 24: A 59-year-old Irvington man was arrested after a police investigation of a stolen wallet from a Verona woman on April 12, at Foodtown, 597 Pompton Ave. Police identified Charles E. Demnon by Foodtown's surveillance system and was processed on two charges of theft for the woman's wallet and credit cards. Demnon was released pending a Superior Court Arraignment in Newark on May 2. April 24: Police reported to an accident, at 9:04 a.m., where a vehicle hit a deer on North Mountain Avenue causing minor front end damage. April 25: A 42-year-old Freehold man was arrested, at 12:52 p.m., for driving with a suspended license. Jose J. Mendez-Larios also had an outstanding traffic warrant from the Asbury Park Court. April 16: Cedar Grove police are investigating a damaged park bench in Community Park on Little Falls Road. The bench, near the lower playground, had blue paint poured on it police said. The repair costs and person responsible are unknown. April 17: A 46-year-old Kearny man was arrested for driving while intoxicated near Leonard R. Parks School, 520 Pompton Ave. at 6:46 p.m. Robert J. Chesney was arrested and processed before being released pending a municipal court appearance. Feb. 14: A 28-year-old Cedar Grove man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police detected the smell of alcohol in his car. Brandon R. Hoagland was arrested at approximately 12:10 a.m. after Cedar Grove police responded to a Ridge Road address on a report of a disturbance. Patrolmen Jason Wolfstirn and Carolyn Zajack stopped a car being driven by Hoagland and detected the smell of alcohol and other signs of impairment while checking his credentials.
