The Cedar Grove Planning Board approved The Grove catering hall's application for 39 additional parking spaces after three hour meeting Tuesday night.
After two months of deliberations and hearings, the Cedar Grove Planning Board approved an application from The Grove catering hall for 39 new parking spaces Tuesday night. The board’s 7-1 approval, following a three-hour meeting, is contingent on several conditions being met by the facility including the elimination of grass islands for additional parking, granting certain off-site parking conditions and allowing smaller buffer zones in certain areas. The board gave owners permission to install up to 16 hydraulic lifts underneath the building, although that condition is contingent on the owners completing that phase only if it is absolutely necessary. It’s Labor Day today, the day marking the traditional end of summer, as children prepare to head back to school and autumn approaches. Although all municipal offices are closed today for the holiday, the first fall meetings kick off, as Verona Council gets back into the swing of things Tuesday. The council meets that night for its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. at town hall, 600 Bloomfield Ave. A meeting agenda is attached to this story. Verona students will be hitting the books on Thursday, which is the first day of school for all Verona students. Friday is the last day to register for Verona Fall Recreation Programs. Catering hall representatives outline a plan to add spaces to their lot, in addition to off-site parking.
Representatives from The Grove catering hall asked the Cedar Grove Planning Board Tuesday night to add 39 parking spaces to its venue and to allow off-site parking. The Cedar Grove Planning Board is expected to vote on the measure at its Sept. 18 meeting. In the past, representatives from The Grove and the township have had an adversarial relationship. Residents have charged overflow parking from the catering hall causes parking and traffic issues in the streets surrounding the business. Controversial Cedar Grove catering business on agenda for first time in nearly a year.
The long-running controversy between area residents and The Grove catering hall will be part of the agenda when the Cedar Grove Planning Board meets Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Residents have charged overflow parking from the catering hall causes parking and traffic issues in the streets surrounding the business. In Sept. 2011, Cedar Grove police were forced to close down several lanes of Pompton Avenue (Route 23) when Grove guests attending a wine tasting were crossing the roadway at dusk and creating a dangerous situation. On Sept. 20, 2011, residents also complained the maximum number of guests at an event exceeded the maximum number of allowed guests. This week’s agenda of township meetings is light, as only the Cedar Grove Planning Board is slated to meet Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Municipal Building. No meeting agenda was available. Government councils return to business next week, with both the Cedar Grove Township and Verona Township councils in session on Monday. The Cedar Grove Township Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Municipal Building. The Verona council will meet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13 in council chambers.
