U.S. News and World Report releases 2013 "Best High Schools" report.
U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of the nation’s best high schools Tuesday, but neither Verona nor Cedar Grove made the list. The list, which includes the top 50 performing schools in New Jersey, measures a variety of criteria including, the proficiency levels on High School Proficiency Exams (HSPA). Other information included in the report shows 16 percent of Cedar Grove High School participated in Advanced Placement (AP) testing, the school has a student to teacher ratio of 15-to-1 with 31 full-time teachers. Out of the 450 students enrolled, two percent of the population is categorized as economically disadvantaged. At Verona High School, 38 percent of students participated in AP testing. Students from Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt. will perform alongside Cedar Grove High School musicians for a special concert on Saturday, April 6.
Cedar Grove High School music students will be partnering with a high school in Vermont for special performances in Vermont as well as Cedar Grove High School. Cedar Grove students traveled to Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt. on Tuesday, April 2 to perform alongside students there in a benefit concert. Both schools will travel to Cedar Grove on Friday, April 5 for a special performance of “Les Miserables” at Cedar Grove High School to be held the following night. “'Les Miserables' will provide the students with opportunities for a wide range of voices,” said Cedar Grove Music Director Jennifer Jessen-Foose. “A curriculum guide explaining the story behind the musical will accompany the student’s learning and reading.” The …

Gabrielle Castelli, a Senior at Cedar Grove High School was named the March Student of the Month. CGHS made the annuncement on the district website. "Senior Gabrielle Castelli holds an A average in Italian, is very well disciplined and hardworking academically. She is of outstanding character. Gabrielle is very motivated and determined and always puts forth her best effort as she is never satisfied with mediocrity. In an age where the value of honor and character of the individual are generally dismissed, Gabrielle is a young woman of exceptional integrity. She is an executive board trustee of the Italian Club and an outstanding pitcher for the Varsity Softball Team."

Council discussed imposing parking ordinance to keep high school students from parking on Ridge Court.
Cedar Grove may soon be adding parking restrictions to Ridge Court after complaints of many High School students parking in front of houses all day, despite an ample amount of parking spaces in the assigned parking lot. No action was taken during the meeting but the council unanimously agreed to move forward on enacting a two-hour parking limit for all of Ridge Court, based on a recommendation from Cedar Grove Chief of Police Richard Vanderstreet. “I live in that neighborhood and it is narrow and it makes the ingress and egress very difficult in that area,” said Mayor Peter Tanella. Cedar Grove's youngest businessmen and businesswomen learn what it takes to succeed in business at Sunday March 3 event at Cedar Grove High School.
Student entrepreneurs will once again learn what it takes to start and run a business while making some cash on the side as the third annual TREP$ Marketplace returns to Cedar Grove. For the past two years, fifth grade through eighth students in the district have learned different aspects of running a business by creating a business model and then put it into action for a bazaar-style market attended by their peers, parents and teachers. “We have more students this year than in the past with just over 200 students with 160 booths,” said Cedar Grove Memorial Middle School Principal Richard Mangili. “It has grown so much and become so successful that we are holding it at the high school because we didn't want to turn anyone away.” The event…

Cedar Grove holds first Beauty and the Beast Performance on Thursday.
Cedar Grove High School will kick off its premiere of Disney's Beauty and the Beast with its first performance on Thursday. The three performances will be held Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The role of the Beast will be played by Senior Alex Campbell while Belle will be portrayed by Senior Courtney Buckworth. The performance will cost $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens and is held in the Cedar Grove High School Auditorium, located at 90 Rugby Road. Cedar Grove Music Matters held its 3rd annual Fat Tuesday Two Mile Run with 23 runners.
The Cedar Grove High School Music Matters program held its third annual Fat Tuesday Two Mile Run with 23 runners taking to the road despite the frigid cold. The race was started by Abraham Lincoln (Philip Jessen) who was celebrating his 204th birthday. Township council unanimously passed an amendment Monday to a ban parking on either side of Union Street near Ridge Road.
The Cedar Grove Township Council Monday night amended a Union Street parking ordinance, which originally called for two-hour parking limits on the north side of the street. The ordinance, passed unanimously by the council, calls for a limit of two-hour parking on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on both sides of the street up to 200 feet from Ridge Road. The ordinance will take effect 20 days after being published in local newspapers, said Cedar Grove Township Manager Thomas Tucci.
