Cedar Grove Police chased a stolen white Audi through the streets of Cedar Grove and into Verona Thursday morning.
Cedar Grove police officers pursued a stolen car on a high-speed chase through the township and then into Verona on Thursday before the chase was called off, Cedar Grove police reported. Officials said an officer saw a white 2001 Audi A8 at stopped in the middle of Bowden Road with its headlights out at 5:20 a.m. and stopped to investigate. The Audi, occupied by three black men, took off, refusing to stop, police said. Two officers chased the car through several Cedar Grove streets before the chase continued on Bloomfield Avenue in Verona. “Due to road conditions and the excessive speed of the Audi, the officers discontinued attempts to stop the car for reasons of public safety,” police said. Vehicles were taken while left idling by restaurant valet service.
Two cars left idling by the valet service at Lu Nello Italian Restaurant in Cedar Grove were stolen around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, Cedar Grove police said. Cedar Grove police were called to the restaurant, located at 182 Stevens Ave. in Cedar Grove, after reports the cars were taken. “Witnesses observed a silver BMW enter the parking lot at which time two occupants exited the BMW and entered two 2012 Mercedes-Benz’s that had been left idling by the restaurant’s valet service,” officials said. Cedar Grove police issue advisory not to leave idling cars unattended after early morning incident.
Cedar Grove Police are searching for two vehicles stolen while idling from driveways early Thursday morning. The cars, a 2008 Acura and the 2011 Jeep, were idling in driveways on Young Avenue and Cedar Grove Parkway when they were stolen around 7:30 a.m., police said. “Based upon witness reports, it is believed that the suspects, three to four black males, arrived in a maroon-colored car with no front license plate,” police told residents via a NIXLE alert. “It appears the suspects were cruising the side streets looking for running vehicles warming up in driveways.” Police searched the area, but were unable to find the cars. I think Social Media sites are waking some people up to the fact that car theft has always been very high in this area and Locking your car doors and not EVER LEAVING the keys in them is a really good deterrent to theft of opportunity.
