Cedar Grove Continues to Outline Budget

Township Manager Tom Tucci completes presentation, but the process is just beginning.

Cedar Grove Township Manager Tom Tucci and the township council continued to outline the 2013 budget Tuesday night with the remaining departments from Monday's hearing. The hearing continued with budgeting for municipal court, engineering, ambulance and rescue squad, police and fire departments, along with several public works items. According to Tucci, public safety is the largest single portion of the municipal budget, which is made up of police and fire appropriation requests. The 2013 budget calls for $3,891,337 for the police department, an increase of $108,902 from 2012. Part of the additional funds will be used for two new police Ford Interceptor SUV's. Cedar Grove Begins Budget Hearings

Township council will continue discussions at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The Cedar Grove Township Council began its annual budget hearing Monday night under the tutelage of Cedar Grove Township Manager Thomas Tucci, who guided the council through the first half of the budget items. According to a recent Star-Ledger report, Cedar Grove had the lowest municipal taxes in Essex County in 2012, a fact not overlooked by Tucci and members of the township council. “Cedar Grove has the lowest local tax rate in the county, but we cannot rest on last year's laurels, every year stands on its own” said Tucci. “This year we will try to achieve that goal again and do the best we can for our residents.” According to the Star-Ledger report, the average municipal tax in Cedar Grove is $1,853, well below the $3,942 average Essex …

Cedar Grove Purchased Generators, Amends Parking Ordinance

Cedar Grove's 2013 budget hearing is scheduled for Monday, January 28 and Tuesday January 29, officials announced.

The Cedar Grove Township Council met for its first public meeting of 2013 after a long holiday recess to discuss several items for the new year. To better prepare for emergencies, the council purchased four new back-up generators for municipal buildings. The generators will be installed at Cedar Grove Town Hall, North End Firehouse, South End Firehouse and the Cedar Grove Public Library. The generators cost the town $165,000 for engineering design and acquisition, said Township Manager Tom Tucci. “We need to have places for people to go with heat and electricity that's within walking distance of people's homes,” said Deputy Mayor Robert O'Toole. The Council also passed an ordinance amending parking limits on Union Street in the township. …
