Brookdale Avenue teachers had a surprise flash mob to surprise students at Thursday's assembly.
Teachers at Brookdale Avenue School in Verona introduced students to a new program called One School, One Book, in which students, parents, teachers, administrators, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and everyone involved in the schools picks up and reads the same book at the same time. Students cheered as teachers rushed on stage for a dance number to introduce the new book "The Cricket in Times Square."

An entire school community will come together Tuesday, as F.N. Verona elementary school commended for student achievement, growth.
Brookdale Avenue Elementary School has been recognized as one of the highest-performing schools in New Jersey by the state Department of Education, officials said. Brookdale was named as a Reward School by the state and is one of only 112 schools to receive the recognition this year. "We are proud of Brookdale making the list," Superintendent Steven Forte said Monday. "It is an accomplishment to be proud of." The Verona elementary school was recognized as a High Growth school. The rankings are determined by analyzing data from the 2008-11 school years, including NJASK, HSPA and APA exams. Students will participate in school spirit week to raise money for the New Jersey Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Brookdale Avenue School in Verona is kicking off its 10th annual spirit week on Monday to build school spirit and raise money for the New Jersey Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The week was originally called “pennies for patients” but it was changed to spirit week since so many generous Verona families were donating more than just change, said Principal Richard Rampolla. School parents, students and staff will donate $2 or more to the New Jersey Leukemia and Lymphoma Society but oftentimes they donate much more, he added. Last year the school raised $535, a big accomplishment with just 133 students, said Rampolla. This year they home to match it and raise over $500. Scot Cannon of Project Impact presented a show of pantomime and music to Brookdale Ave. students.
On Tuesday, Dec 18, Scot Cannon of Project Impact presented "The Gift Inside" to the students at Brookdale Ave. Elementary School in Verona. The assembly was sponsored by the Brookdale School Community Association (SCA). "It was a warm and touching non-denominational holiday show which teaches that the best gifts we can give are the ones that come from inside," The SCA said in a written statement. "Through pantomime and music, Scot told the story of a boy who could not talk, but through performing selfless acts finds his voice."

Beautiful weather for day of outdoor fun for students, parents.
A fall festival took place at the Brookdale Avenue School Saturday. The festival featured pony rides, a bouncy house, a dunk tank and face painting. The festival also featured arts and crafts including spin art and sand art as well as foods like cotton candy.

Brookdale Avenue School's second grade Brownie Troop #22736 held a used book drive April 2 - 13 at the Verona school. The troop collect used childrens' books to support the literacy program at the soup kitchen, located at 103 16th Ave. in Newark.
