Verona Man, Cedar Grove Teen Charged With Marijuana Possession

Pair arrested on pot charges after a neighbor reported a suspicious activity.

Cedar Grove police arrested two people on Monday, May 7after a neighbor contacted them concerning suspicious activity at a nearby home. Police said a 20-year-old Verona man and a 15-year-old Cedar Grove youth were arrested when a resident told police a suspicious person had entered the neighbor’s backyard. When police arrived, they allegedly found the pair smoking marijuana. Police said the 15-year-old was in possession of two bags of marijuana — a larger bag of loose marijuana and a second larger bag that contained smaller bags of marijuana along with a number of empty smaller bags used for packaging marijuana. Cedar Grove Man Arrested on Defiant Trespass Charges

Corey M. Bonn, 28, of Cedar Grove was arrested on Wednesday, May 8 at Cedar Grove CVS Pharmacy at 387 Pompton Ave.

Several weeks after being told he was not welcome in a local pharmacy, a Cedar Grove man was arrested May 8 for allegedly verbally abusing a pharmacy employee, Cedar Grove police said. Corey M. Bonn, 28, of Cedar Grove was arrested on a defiant trespass charge last Wednesday at CVS Pharmacy located at 387 Pompton Ave. Bonn allegedly entered the pharmacy and began verbally abusing a store employee, police said. “He had previously been informed he was not wanted on the premise due to his demeanor with the staff,” police said. Bonn was taken to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a municipal court appearance.

Hit and Run Leads to Assaulting Police Officer, Resisting Arrest

Massachusetts man arrested after shoving, struggling with Verona Police Officer.

A Massachusetts man was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after officers caught up with him following an alleged drunken driving hit and run. Verona police said they were called to a car accident at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Mount Prospect Avenue at 7:41 p.m. on Monday, May 6. Additional officers were called in to help search for a white Mercedes, which had left the scene of the accident, police said. The Mercedes was found and stopped in the area of Birdseye Glen. When the driver, later identified as Michael Ginis of Newton, Massachusetts, was pulled over, police smelled alcohol on his breath, according to Verona Police. Police: Man Arrested For Impersonating Officer

A Bloomfield man was arrested for pretending to be a police officer, ordering woman to pull over.

A Bloomfield man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after a Tuesday, April 30 incident in which he ordered a motorist to pull over in Cedar Grove, police said. Rocco Castiello, 72, who allegedly pretended to be a police officer, told the driver to pull over on East Bradford Avenue on Saturday, April 20, officials said. A 24-year old woman told police a man in a green van, who was later identified as Castiello, said he was a police officer and ordered her to pull over, police said. The incident took place after the woman pulled over after the traffic light at the intersection of East Bradford Avenue and Ridge Road, officials said. Cedar Grove Woman Arrested Three Times in Two Days

A woman has car impounded after she was detained three times between Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.

When Ewa M. O’Brien of Cedar Grove was stopped by Cedar Grove police on Saturday, April 13, it was just the beginning of her troubles. The 59-year-old woman was arrested at 5:11 p.m. that night for driving with a suspended license. A short while later, after being processed and released on the charges, O’Brien was stopped at 6:47 p.m. for a second time on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove, this time for driving with an open container of alcohol, police said. She was once again arrested, processed and released. But O’Brien was arrested for a third time the next day when another officer saw her drive through a stop sign at Sherman Avenue and Bowden Road without stopping, police said. Montclair Pair Arrested on Prescription Fraud Charges

Two women attempted to fill numerous prescriptions at CVS, but pharmacist became suspicious, police said.

Cedar Grove police arrested two Montclair women Thursday, March 28 on prescription fraud charges one day after the women allegedly attempted to fill several prescriptions for controlled-dangerous substances, officials said. Marcia L. McCotter, 64, and Sara F. McCotter, 68 allegedly attempted to fill numerous prescriptions at the CVS Pharmacy located at 387 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove for Tylenol with Codeine ― a controlled-dangerous substance (CDS) ― with fraudulent, stolen prescription slips, police said. The pharmacist became suspicious of the number of prescriptions McCotter wanted to fill on Wednesday, March 27, Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said. Police: Drug, Leaving the Scene Charges For North Haledon Man

Verona police arrest Ronald McManus for possession of drug paraphernalia hours after he allegedly left the scene of an accident.

[Updated: Tuesday, March 26 11:00 a.m.] Verona police searched without success on Thursday, March 21 for Ronald McManus at a West Caldwell business where he works to ticket him for leaving the scene of an accident earlier in the day and driving with a suspended license. But, according to Verona police, that was just the beginning of the North Haledon resident’s troubles. In the accident, police said McManus was driving on Bloomfield Avenue around 4 p.m. when he allegedly hit a car at the intersection of Bloomfield and Fairview avenues and then left the scene. New York Woman Arrested Twice In One Night in Cedar Grove

After being released by police for shoplifting and driving with a suspended license, she was again arrested a second time after attempting to drive without a license.

A New York woman was arrested twice in the same night after racking up an extensive list of charges in Cedar Grove. Alexis M. Huchko, 32, of Haverstraw, N.Y., was arrested at  approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday March 3 after attempting to steal $193.84 worth of food and household-cleaning items from the CVS Pharmacy located at 387 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove, police said. In addition, police discovered Huchko was in possession of a burnt spoon with heroin residue and she had driven to the pharmacy while her driving privileges in New York were under suspension, police said. Police: Verona Man Arrested After Brandishing Knife at Verona Inn

A Verona man was arrested after an altercation involving a knife at a Bloomfield Avenue business.

A 22-year-old Verona man was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly brandishing a knife at employees at the Verona Inn, police said.   Thomas McMahon was arrested and charged with simple assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and defiant trespass after the Dec. 29 incident, according to police.  Police responded to Verona Inn Dec. 29 on a report of an employee who was threatened with a knife, police said. An employee told police that McMahon had been asked to leave the business several times but continued to return. “After being escorted from the business the suspect then threatened the employees with the knife,” police said. He was in that man's establishment and pulled a knife and threatened the owner/employee.Most establishments have a pistol under the counter/bar to LEGALLY protect themselves from hold-ups.Was it Clint Eastwood that said,"Don't ever take a knife to a gun fight" It may have turned out very bad(much worse than it is now) for McMahon!!!!! West Orange Council President Charged with DWI in Verona

Council President Victor Cirilo of West Orange was arrested and issued several tickets, police said.

West Orange Council President Victor Cirilo was arrested on drunk driving charges in Verona, police said.  Police stopped Cirilo just after midnight on Nov. 9 and smelled “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” police said. After a series of field sobriety tests, the Council President was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court appearance. Cirilo was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and issued several motor vehicle summonses, police said. The Township of West Orange declined comment, according to Jessica Glicker, a township spokeswoman.
