Early Morning Accident Stalls Traffic on Bloomfield Ave.

A driver crossed onto the wrong side of the road and struck a utility pole, streetlight and garbage can, police said.

An early morning crash on Bloomfield and Park avenues in Verona caused heavy traffic delays Friday morning, as PSE&G replaced a damaged utility pole. A male driver was traveling West on Bloomfield Avenue between 1 and 2 a.m. on Friday, when the Honda crossed into the Eastbound lane and crashed, taking out a utility pole, streetlight and garage can, said Verona Chief of Police Douglas Huber. “He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson for non-life threatening injuries,” he said. Verona Police, EMS and Fire Departments were called to the scene. As of 11:30 a.m. on Friday, only one lane remained open in each direction on Bloomfield Ave. while PSE&G replaced the damaged pole. 16-Year-Old Bloomfield Girl Killed in Weekend Crash

Christina Lembo was pronounced dead shortly after the Honda Civic she was a passenger in was involved in an accident with a Camaro Saturday night.

A 16-year-old Bloomfield High School soccer player died Saturday night in car crash that left four others injured.   Christina Lembo was seated in the back of a 2007 Honda Civic when it was involved in a car crash with a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street in Bloomfield, according to a press release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Lembo was transported to University Hospital in Newark, and was pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.  “I heard, 'Bam!' Verona Woman Struck by Car on Bloomfield Avenue

Driver cited for careless driving, failure to yield.

A Verona woman was struck by a car this morning crossing Bloomfield Avenue when a car failed to yield to her in the crosswalk, police said Thursday. The 54-year-old, whose identity was not released, was crossing from Lakeside Avenue at approximately 7:45 a.m. when she was hit by the car and knocked down. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson by ambulance. Verona Police Chief Doug Huber said the woman was alert and conscious at the scene, and that the hospital reported her in stable condition a few hours later. The driver, a 43-year-old Bloomfield woman, was cited for careless driving and for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Huber said.
