Raids of four Cedar Grove massage parlors Tuesday led to the arrest of five Queens women on prostitution charges, authorities said. An investigation began in early spring after complaints arose about workers allegedly engaging in prostitution, officials at the prosecutor’s office and Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet announced late Tuesday night. A Newark man, arrested for attempted burglary in Verona, racked up several additional charges after police linked him to an April break-in, Verona Police said in a written statement. Verona and Cedar Grove residents have decided to maintain the status quo voting their incumbents back into office, according to unofficial results from the Essex County Clerk's Office. New Jersey Ranks Third in %&!#@ing Survey

Swearing study ranked the most and least courteous states in the country.

Third place? We couldn’t do better than #&@$ing third place? New Jersey residents were beaten out by Ohio and Maryland in a survey ranking individuals most likely to drop swear words on a complete stranger during a phone conversation. On the flip side, analysis by the Marchex Institute found that Washington, Massachusetts and Arizona topped the list of state residents least likely to lose their cool. Marchex examined more than 600,000 calls over a year that were placed by consumers to businesses in 30 different industries. The mobile advertising company also ranked the most courteous states: South Carolina, North Carolina and Maryland. And the least courteous states: Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Indiana. Hilda Lutzke Honored as Older Americans Heritage Month Winner

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. recently recognized Verona resident Hilda Lutzke , a retired English teacher at Weequahic High School in Newark for 40 years and one of the founders of the Newark Teachers Union at an awards ceremony at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove. The nearly 100-year-old Lutzke, who resolved to teach and to advance all of her students, regardless of culture, race or religion, keeps in regular contact with many of her former students. In 2011, at the time she was 98 years old, Ms. Lutzke was the featured guest speaker at her 72nd high school reunion. Thieves Hit Multiple Cars in Verona

Police look to public for information on several car burglaries.

Police are urging residents to keep their cars locked as they investigate a string of car burglaries that hit Verona in the last week.  On May 11, seven cars were burglarized on various streets throughout Verona, police said.  “We definitely believe that the same people or person was responsible for the thefts in the area that night,” said Verona Chief of Police Douglas Huber. “Every once and a while towns get hit and every once and a while we get lucky and make an arrest.” Police are looking to the public for any information on any suspicious activity in the area of the burglaries. Jets RB Goodson Arrested on Gun, Drug Charges

The Irvington native signed a 3-year, $6 million contract with the Jets in March.

Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Goodson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital in nearby Boonton and eventually charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet, according to ESPN. Powerball results were watched closely Wednesday when the jackpot was $363 million. After no one picked all six winning numbers, the new Powerball prize for the Saturday, May 18, drawing is now $600 million, which makes it the highest Powerball jackpot ever — and the second-highest U.S. lottery jackpot. The one-time cash payout is estimated at $376.9 million. Tickets are $2 and the game is played in New Jersey and 42 other states, including New York, Florida, Texas and California.
