From its beginnings as an orphanage in Newark in the late 1800s, The Children's Institute has evolved into a private elementary, middle and secondary school to help students ages three to twenty-one overcome learning, language or social and emotional challenges to reach full potential as adults. Located at one of the highest elevations in the county, The Children's Institute offers a diverse range of theraputic, educational and life skills programs for its students. The institute is a non-profit school approved by the State Board of Education.
