Panthers Picnic, Fall Rec Registration This Week

Registration for Verona Fall Recreation programs begin Monday at 8:30 a.m. Sign up for flag football, soccer, tennis and more. New this year — indoor ropes course! Register at www.VeronaNJ.org.

The Junior Women's Club of Verona will hold a meeting for prospective members interested in learning more about membership in the club on Tuesday. Enjoy drinks, apps, and desserts while you meet and mingle. RSVP to membership@veronajuniors.org.

Tuesday is the primary election to decide the Democratic and Republican candidates to fill the U.S. Senate seat which became open following the death of Frank Lautenberg. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is the front-runner in the latest polls, making him the target of fellow candidates in the final Democratic Debate.

The Hilltop Reservation Conservancy is holding its annual Grasshopper Kids Mountain Bike Race on Saturday morning. Bike racers, grades k through 8, are welcome to ride and race for prizes on a specially prepared 0.6 mile course.

Are you ready for some high school football? The Cedar Grove Panthers football team will celebrate the upcoming season with a picnic on Saturday, at 12:30 p.m., in Community Park. There will be a punt, pass and kick competition, dunk tank, deejay and more.

The First Presbyterian Church of Verona will hold the annual Blessing of the Animals next Sunday, at 10:15 a.m. The church is located at 10 Fairview Ave.
