Eric Mortenson Memorial Golf Outing, Verona Family Night Out, Pumpkin Decorating Contest

What's happening in Verona-Cedar Grove this week and what stories Patch plans to cover.

Monday is Columbus Day. Verona and Cedar Grove township offices and libraries are closed.

The Cedar Grove Public Library is holding a pumpkin decorating contest. Create your favorite book character using a pumpkin (not carved or hallowed out). See details here. Entries will be judged by the community.

The Verona Fire Department will mark Fire Prevention Week Monday by visiting local public elementary schools with one apparatus at each school, talking to students in grades K-3. Private school visits will be held on different days in the month of October.

The Eric Mortenson Memorial Golf Tournament takes places Tuesday, from noon to 8 p.m., at the Montclair Golf Club in West Orange. For more information, call 973-239-8181 of visit veronachamber.org.

The Verona Board of Education will hold Interviews for an Open Seat on the board on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Verona Municipal Alliance Committee will host its annual Family Night on Thursday, at 5:30 p.m. Family night coupons are available to several town restaurants. Plus, there will be free activities at the Verona Library. 

Friends of the Verona Public Library will kick off National Friends of the Library Week with a members' breakfast and annual meeting on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m.

Essex County will hold a Computer and Electronics Collection on Saturday in Cedar Grove.
