Valerie Fund 5K Set for Saturday in Verona Park

Nearly $900,000 has been raised to support children with cancer.

More than $891,000 and counting has been raised for this year's Valerie Fund walk and 5K run taking place in Verona Park Saturday. 

The annual event raises money for The Valerie Fund Centers, which provide emotional, social and develeopmental support, as well as medical care, to children with cancer.

Among the nearly 200 teams participating this year is a group of Cedar Grove High School freshman, calling themselves The Dream Team, who have raised $1,700.

"We are a group of Cedar Grove High School students who want to help other kids," reads The Dream Team's fundraising page. Julia, Hallie, Ava, Julia O., Nicolette and Alex — and their growing team including Lea, Bailey and Erin — are encouraging their friends and classmates to join in and contribute. 

Other team's include the Junior Women's Club of Cedar Grove, the Junior Women's Club of Verona, a group of Essex County Employees and JAG Physical Therapy, a sponsor of the event.

Verona Park is located at Bloomfield and Lakeside avenues in Verona.
