Suburban Basketball Coaches Wanted

There are two teams at each grade level, fifth through eighth grade, one for boys and one for girls. The season will begin with tryouts in mid-October with games beginning in mid-December and continuing into late February. Generally there are 2 or 3 practices per week pre-season. When games start, there are 1 or 2 practices and 2 games each week. The VRD strives at all times to make the practice schedule “fit” the coach.

Prospective volunteer coaches are invited to submit a letter to Recreation Director Jim Cunningham, outlining their experience and general qualifications along with reasoning as to why you would make a good coach. Coaches are subject to a background check conducted by completing and submitting a background check form. These forms are available in the recreation office, or online. All volunteer coaches are also required to hold a coaching certificate. The Recreation Department will be offering a Rutgers Coaching Clinic, dates soon to come, please check website regularly, or submit your name to Rec office and we will contact you. When class dates are set, please call the Recreation office to register for class in advance, #973-857-4830. Please note that anyone planning on assisting the head coach or working with the teams in any capacity must hold a coaching certification.

The deadline for submitting an application to coach a Verona Recreation Department Suburban basketball team is September 27, 2013. Tryouts and coach selection will be handled by the Recreation Department with assistance from members of the Verona Recreation Coaching Advisory Panel.

Please submit your letters to Jim Cunningham, 880 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona NJ 07044 or email jcunningham@veronanj.org or mlandolfi@veronanj.org. If you have any questions, call the Recreation Department at #973-857-4830.
