Weather Alters Essex County Summer Concert Series Schedule

Upcoming events include a fireworks spectacular and performances by Joe Piscopo and The Infernos, the David Cedeno Orchestra, Trilogy: An Opera Company, No Discipline and The Duprees.

“Our Free Concert Series offers a diverse lineup of performers who will take center stage in venues throughout our historic Essex County Park System. Pack a blanket, enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to the sounds of classical, rock and roll, jazz, big band, Latin and more. We have a spectacular line-up that is sure to entertain and impress,” DiVincenzo said.

The Infernos with Joe Piscopo and Fireworks Display
After being rained out twice, the Essex County Fireworks Spectacular and Concert featuring Joe Piscopo and The Infernos has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 15th in Essex County Brookdale Park. Known as “America’s #1 Show Band,” The Infernos vast repertoire includes all genres of music including Big Band, Oldies, Motown and today’s top chart busters. Bobby Wells, former member and musical director of The Duprees, is the leader of the band and provides keyboard and background vocals. Formerly of The Commodores, lead singer Kenny Simmons brings a powerful voice and showmanship that is sure to engage the audience. The band will be joined that night by entertainer Joe Piscopo. Best known as a cast member of Saturday Night Live, Piscopo’s career has spanned more than 25 years and includes starring in Hollywood movies and television, and performing on stage where he displays his comedic and musical talents in extraordinary shows. After the concert, stay for a spectacular fireworks presentation. The concert and fireworks will be held as follows:

David Cedeno Orchestra
The David Cedeno Orchestra plays a large variety of music including Latin salsa, Latin jazz, merengue, ballads, waltz and, most of all, Cedeno’s specialty of performing songs from 1950s in a Latin salsa beat with English words. Cedeno has created 17 albums, which include his international hits “Lady in Red,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “Some Where” and “Sealed With a Kiss.” The David Cedeno Orchestra will perform as follows:

Trilogy: An Opera Company
Trilogy: An Opera Company will present an opera featuring the sounds made famous by Paul Robeson. Based in Newark and led by its artistic director, Kevin Maynard, Trilogy presents opera in a non-traditional format and venues. The rain date is Thursday, July 17th. The Paul Robeson Opera will be held as follows:

No Discipline
No Discipline was formed by lead guitarist and vocalist Al Bazaz and his brother Mike Bazaz on rhythm guitar and vocals in 1983. The reggae band records and performs their own original music, as well as covering other Caribbean artists. They are regularly joined by a variety of other artists, including Chris Joshua, Selah Jendayi, Hoova, Don Newby, Justin Derman, Joe Frullaney, Craig Redmond, Jean Claude and Gary Doyle.No Discipline will perform as follows:

The Duprees
The Duprees are known for their romantic interpretations of the most beautiful love songs ever written and have made a career of giving new life to old hits. The band started out in the early sixties in Jersey City and was discovered by George Paxton of Coed Records. Impressed with their smooth vocal quality, he had them record Jo Stafford's 1950's ballad "You Belong to Me" with big band arrangements. It was an instant national hit and the group's first million seller. Other hits include “My Own True Love,” “Take Me As I Am,” “Why Don’t You Believe Me,” “Have You Heard,” “Love Eyes,” “The Sand and the Sea” and “Let Them Talk.” The Duprees will perform as follows:

The SummerMusic Concert Series is being sponsored by Rose Squared Productions, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, Filippo Berio Olive Oil, TD Bank and the Branch Brook Park Alliance. The series is also made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

Concerts are held at accessible sites. Persons who require special accommodations or assistance are asked to call at least two weeks prior to the concert to alert staff as to their needs. The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 22 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, golf driving range, two miniature golf courses, Treetop Adventure Course, three off-leash dog facilities, a castle and the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
