Free Summer Concert, Scholarship Fund Cocktail Party This Week

Plus, Verona Council holds special meeting, and quilling returns to Cedar Grove Library.

The Verona Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The council will go immediately into private session to discuss legal and personnel matters. No official action will be taken.

No one plays the 88 keys of the piano like Verona native Bobby Lynch. Lynch is the featured performer this Wednesday in Verona's free summer music concert series. He'll play selections from such "piano men" as Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. Concerts are from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Civic Center.

The John Keenan Memorial Scholarship Fund cocktail party will be held Thursday at Il Tulipano in Cedar Grove. Tickets are $75. The scholarship fund was established in memory of John Keenan, one of the finest athletes to come out of Cedar Grove. Keenan died 10 years ago of Hodgkin’s Disease at the age of 42. Read more about the scholarship fund.

Not all local high schoolers have set their brains on snooze for the summer. The Verona Summer Enrichment Academy is underway with two college-credit level courses, one on the Vietnam War and another on general psychology. Patch will sit in on the psych class and bring you a story this week.

Curious about Verona-Cedar Grove Real Estate? We'll post special features all week long — including what's come on the market, a featured property and this weekend's open houses.

Quilling sessions will resume at the Cedar Grove Library Wednesday at 2 p.m. Weekly classes by instructor Agnes Dembia will focus on the art of this interesting craft which entails cutting and curling narrow strips of paper to form intricate designs. The workshop is limited to 8 participants. Call 973-239-1447.
