Verona Fireworks Go On Despite Forecast

Community gathers at Verona High School to mark Fourth of July.

The Fourth of July fireworks were better late than never.

After being bumped from Monday because of thunderstorms in the forecast, Tuesday's rain date was not looking any better.

But the show went on despite ominous clouds in the sky.

Hundreds gathered at Verona High School's field to watch the display, with others setting up folding chairs and blankets on their lawns along Grove Avenue.

They ate ice cream, danced to the DJ, tossed footballs and chatted up neighbors during the traditional Independence Day celebration.
