Verona High School Band Performs at Carnegie Hall

Letter to the editor from the Verona High School Music Department

The Verona High School Concert Band will perform at the iconic Carnegie Hall on Friday night, March 15th 2013 as part of the Eastern Wind Symphony Symphonic Gala! Carnegie Hall is the most famous venue in the world hosting performances from artists as varied as the Beatles to the musicians of the New York Philharmonic. The Eastern Wind Symphony Symphonic Gala is a major statement for the vitality of the wind band as an artistic genre, and our Friday night appearance in New York City in the heart of concert season will surely be a once in a lifetime experience!

Our band will share the stage with Roxbury High School, Montgomery High School, Bridgewater-Raritan High School, and the Eastern Wind Symphony, a professional wind band comprised of music educators/freelance musicians. Verona’s selections will include works by Jack Stamp, Dmitri Shostakovich, Percy Grainger, and Bruce Yurko under the direction of Mr. Erik Lynch.

The Verona Concert Band prides itself as one of the only all-inclusive ninth through twelfth grade ensembles in the country to maintain the highest level of artistic integrity in both competitive and community performances. Highlights include multiple appearances at the New Jersey State Concert Band Festival, the Rutgers University Mid-Atlantic Wind Band Festival, and more recently being the first student group to ever play the professional concert at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey where we were hailed as the “highlight” of the concert series. Our appearance at Carnegie Hall represents a high point in the rich musical history that is Verona music.

Tickets are $25 and will be available from the Carnegie Hall box office starting on January 15th.
