New Laning School Principal Comes With 20 Years Experience

Julie DiGiacomo has worked in the Livingston, Tenafly and Creskill school districts.

The Verona Board of Education gave the green light Monday to the hiring of a new principal for Laning Avenue Elementary School.

According to a statement from Verona Public Schools, Julie DiGiacomo comes to the township with more than 20 years experience in three high-performing New Jersey districts.

For 14 years, DiGiacomo served Livingston Public Schools as an elementary teacher, middle school reading specialist and a district literacy coach. She moved on to the Tenafly district, spending five years leading professional development efforts and revising and implementing K-12 curriculum. And for the past two years, she has been Cresskill Middle School's assistant principal, while serving the Creskill district as District Test Coordinator and supervisor of Language Arts and World Language.

DiGiacomo holds a bachelor’s degree from Rowan University in elementary education and master’s degrees from Montclair  State University in reading and educational administration. 

"We are all very excited to add Mrs. DiGiacomo to the Verona team," said Superintendent of Schools Steven A. Forte in a statement. "She has a great deal of experience in areas we are focusing on currently including Understanding by Design, Readers and Writers Workshop and the use of Student Growth Objectives."

Residents will get an opportunity to get to know more about the new principal when the district schedules a meet and greet event with DiGiacomo.  According to the district, the date will be announced "in upcoming weeks."
