Caldwell College Will Seek University Status

President Blattner calls this a "defining moment" in the history of the school.

Caldwell College is officially seeking university status, the school announced Monday.

The Caldwell College Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution charging the school to take the steps necessary to achieve university status, according to President Nancy Blattner.

The College, located at 9 Ryerson Ave. in Caldwell has graduated many Verona and Cedar Grove residents since it was incorporated in 1939. There are currently 63 Verona and Cedar Grove students attending the College.

“This is certainly a defining moment in the history of Caldwell College and in its future,” Blattner stated in a release. “The campus community is excited about the possibility of claiming the designation of university.”

A task force will begin to complete a proposal which will be submitted to the Office of the New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education for consideration.

The process would take approximately two years and could come during the school’s 75th anniversary during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Blattner said the school has grown to meet the status of university in several ways, including the addition of its first doctoral program in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2009, strong master’s degree programs in multiple disciplines, the opening of the Center for Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis and the achievement of several national accreditations for its counseling, business, education and nursing programs.

Achieving university status was part of Blattner’s vision when she became president of the college in July 2009. The goal was incorporated into the college’s five-year strategic plan in spring 2010.

Caldwell College is a private, Catholic co-ed four-year college. The school was founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell.
