$16.6M Verona School Referendum Up for Vote Tuesday

Project proposes improvements to school security, technology and Thomas J. Sellitto Field.

Verona voters will hit the polls Tuesday to decide on a $16.6 million project to improve school security, technology and Thomas J. Sellitto Field.

Verona is one of 13 New Jersey school districts voting Tuesday on referendums ranging from roof replacements, energy system upgrades and security improvements that total $180,037,025 with $80,077,346 eligible for state funding.

Verona's $16,641,855 project is eligible for up to $5,199,644 in state funding if approved by voters.

The project will pose a $176.75 tax increase to the average Verona home over the next 20 years, according to the district's website that outlines the cost of each portion of the project.

The plan, which includes a $5.7 million project to create a multi-purpose field for soccer, lacrosse and football, dates back to 2005 when a referendum for building repairs passed and a second question regarding Verona High field improvements failed by more than 700 votes, according to the Verona-Cedar Grove Times.

Verona polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
