Repairs Nearly Completed to Verona Roadway

Paving, striping of roadway at intersection of Grove Street and Ozone Avenue all that remains following water main break.

[Updated: 9 a.m. Wednesday] Crews from the Verona Department of Public Works completed repair work on a water main break near the intersection of Grove Street and Ozone Avenue before 9 p.m. Tuesday night and the roadway should soon be open to traffic, Verona Township Manager Joseph Martin said Wednesday morning.

The water main break Tuesday morning near the intersection left 15 homes — including Webster Commons  — without water.

Martin said Tuesday an 8-inch main broke and township department of public works officials were pumping out water with the help of Essex County and Cedar Grove, who also provided traffic control around the area.

This morning crews milled the closed down roadway at 7 a.m. Martin said crews expected to pave the road around 9:30 a.m. before letting that dry so the stripes could be painted.

Martin said the break was “fairly substantial” and praised the help offered by both Essex County and Cedar Grove in resolving the situation.

Police were stationed at the intersection overnight and this morning to help re-route and direct traffic around the work area, Martin said.
