Martin Luther King Day, Emergency Preparedness in the Week Ahead

Find out what's going on this week in Verona and Cedar Grove.

Cedar Grove Schools will be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21 with readings and activities. Verona schools will be closed.

The Cedar Grove Board of Education will meet for a closed executive session on Monday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. The board is meeting to discuss a personnel matter and the meeting will not be open to the public.

The Verona Township Council will meet for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Verona Civic Center, 600 Bloomfield Ave. An agenda is attached as a pdf. 

The Verona Board of Education will also meet on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. at Verona High School, 151 Fairview Ave. An agenda is attached as a pdf.

On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Verona Police will be holding the Community College Citizen Preparedness Program at the Verona Community Center.

The free, two-hour training session will focus on what to do in the event of a natural, manmade or technological disaster. Police will teach about threat awareness and assessment; sheltering and evacuation; and recovery and resources.

The Verona Planning Board meeting scheduled for Thursday Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. has been cancelled, according to a note on the Verona website. The next meeting will occur on Feb. 28.

Verona High School will have a half day on Thursday Jan. 24 and Friday, Jan. 25.
