Cedar Grove Still Working to Restore Power

Mayor Peter Tanella says less than 2,000 residents still without power.

PSE&G crews have been working around the clock to restore power to Verona and Cedar Grove residents, who have been without electricity since Hurricane Sandy damaged trees and power lines on Monday.

Power began coming back on Wednesday Oct. 31 and continued through Thursday, officials said.

“Right now there are less than 2,000 Cedar Grove residents still without power,” said Cedar Grove Mayor Peter Tanella on Thursday. “Some other towns are still between 80 to 90 percent without power.”

Tanella, who also has no power, is urging everyone in the township to “just be patient.”

The township has been working with PSE&G night and day to repair downed wires and return power to residents who have remained in the dark, he said.

Crews are still working to repair live wires before they can get to a major power line on Ridge Road.

“A majority of the residents without power are on the south end of town,” said Tanella. “Once the power line on Ridge Road is repaired it will restore power to South End.”

Tanella again praised the efforts of the Cedar Grove Police Department who have been “working around the clock to make sure everyone is secure.”

Telephone polls need to be replaced in some areas and downed lines need to be repaired but most of the downtown area is back online.

Gas stations have power but have run out of gas as residents waited on long lines to fill their generators.

For now, there is no more gas to be had in Cedar Grove until the gas stations can keep up with the demand, said Tanella.

“It's going to take some time,” he said. “Please be patient while we try to return to normal.”
