West Orange Council President Victor Cirilo was arrested on drunk driving charges in Verona, police said.
Police stopped Cirilo just after midnight on Nov. 9 and smelled “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” police said.
After a series of field sobriety tests, the Council President was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court appearance.
Cirilo was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and issued several motor vehicle summonses, police said.
The Township of West Orange declined comment, according to Jessica Glicker, a township spokeswoman.
