Verona and Cedar Grove See Increase in Thefts and Burglaries

New Jersey releases 2011 Uniform Crime Report.

Both Verona and Cedar Grove have seen an increase in non-violent crimes from 2010 to 2011, according to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report released last week.

Motor vehicle thefts increased tenfold in Cedar Grove with only one committed in 2010. Ten motor vehicle thefts were reported in 2011 according to the report.

Most notably in Verona, is the jump in burlaries from 24 in 2010 to 61 in 2011. Police saw an increase in larcencies from 81 in 2010 to 105 in 2011. 

While violent crimes occur in both towns less than ten times per year, non-violent crimes have increased in each municipality within the past two years.

Throughout the state, overall crime rose 3-percent from 2010 to 2011.
