Cedar Grove Police: Passenger Was Illegal Alien

Kearny man arrested, turned over to immigration officials after Saturday night traffic stop.

 

A 24-year old passenger in a car stopped by Cedar Grove police Saturday was an illegal alien and was turned over to immigration officials, Cedar Grove police said.

Grimaldo D. Andia of Kearny was arrested and turned over to the Department of Homeland Security Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said.

“It looks like he was an illegal alien and failed to appear for deportation,” said Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet.

Andia was a passenger in a 2004 Nissan when officers pulled the car over on Ridge Road at 3:29 a.m., police said.

Andia was processed at police headquarters before being turned over to the ICE.

The driver, 24-year-old Luis Rivera of Elizabeth, was issued tickets for operating an uninsured vehicle and the car was impounded.
