Early Morning Accident Stalls Traffic on Bloomfield Ave.

A driver crossed onto the wrong side of the road and struck a utility pole, streetlight and garbage can, police said.

An early morning crash on Bloomfield and Park avenues in Verona caused heavy traffic delays Friday morning, as PSE&G replaced a damaged utility pole.

A male driver was traveling West on Bloomfield Avenue between 1 and 2 a.m. on Friday, when the Honda crossed into the Eastbound lane and crashed, taking out a utility pole, streetlight and garage can, said Verona Chief of Police Douglas Huber.

“He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson for non-life threatening injuries,” he said.

Verona Police, EMS and Fire Departments were called to the scene.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Friday, only one lane remained open in each direction on Bloomfield Ave. while PSE&G replaced the damaged pole.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, said Huber.
