Don't Flush! Verona Police to Collect Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Medications can be dropped off at Verona Municipal Building no questions asked.

The Verona Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public a chance to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Medications may be dropped off at the Verona Municipal Building at 600 Bloomfield Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal of the collection is to help prevent pill abuse and theft.

"Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse," according to a release from Verona Police. "Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs."

Traditional methods of throwing in trash and flushing down the toilet also pose potential safety and health hazards.
